Red French Clay

Predominantly composed from illite and kaolin, AWO’s Red French Clay has been seen to be incredibly beneficial, particularly when it comes to oily prone skin.

Below are some other ways in which Red Clay may be beneficial:

• In skincare, Red French Clay is known to restore natural skin balance and for this reason it is commonly used in face masks and other cosmetics.
• It is also prized for its well-known detoxifying, mattifying and healing properties that have been seen to ease various skin imperfections.
• When combined with a carrier oil and used topically, it has also been said that Red French Clay may stimulate blood circulation which may further assist with easing muscle aches and other discomforts.

Mask: For a simple and effective mask, mix a few drops of purified water, floral water or aloe vera juice, with a few drops of your favourite carrier oil, into 1tbsp of clay until a smooth paste is formed. 1-2 drops of essential oil can also be added for extra benefits. Apply to the face or body and leave for about 10 minutes (or until partially dry). Gently rinse off and finish with a good moisturiser or face serum.
Poultices: Red French Clay can also be used as a poultices to treat sore muscles, sprains, bruises, insect bites, stings and minor burns. Simply mix into a thick paste with water and apply to a piece of gauze. Apply the gause (clay side down) to the injured area and hold in place with adhesive tape. It can be left for up to 2 hours, but the clay should not be allowed to dry. Discard poultice after use - do not reuse.
Mineral bath: Add 1/2 cup of Red French Clay to a bath of warm water, to soothe sunburned or irritated skin, relieve arthritis or muscle pains, and reduce stress.
